about
Following on from their direct and cacophonous recent single "Everyone's The Same", "My Brother" perfectly exemplifies ISLAND's ability to further develop and build upon the dynamics of their shimmering, dulcet indie-pop sensibilities. The track combines expansive and evocatively effected guitars with atmospheric instrumentation, and a ruminative yet anthemic vocal, which leans into a theme of nostalgia that is at once poignant and sanguine.
Speaking about the new single, the band says, "'My Brother’ is about wanting the best for someone that's close to you who needs help, someone that needs to get out and see the world for what it can be, and escape from being stuck doing the same old things in life. It's a plea for them to make that change, and the happiness that comes when they manage it."
lyrics
ISLAND – My Brother
I said, one day we’d run from this old town of ours
You said, out there, somewhere, there was a world to love
So take this hand, touch this blood
You’re my brother, run for me, cause I can’t get out
Now that you’ve seen
The edge of this town
I saw your eyes see the whole sky for the first time
And I’ll say it still, we’ll take back all the hours we’ve killed
And you’ll claim there’s no time, as we sit and watch the cars roll by
So take this hand, touch this blood
You’re my brother, run for me, cause I can’t get out
Take these shoes, go they’re yours now
And even though the end is far don’t ever turn back
My brother
You should live a life
Give it a little try, this time
My brother
This world is in your palm
Take this as one more chance
To run like we said we would
So take this hand, touch this blood
You’re my brother, run for me, cause I can’t get out
Take it now, I’m telling you
I saw your eyes see the whole sky for the first time
